Ramons Village Resort: Morning After

We spent half the night trying to save Ramon’s Village Resort on Ambergris Caye from total loss. We awoke the next morning to witness the devastation that the fire bestowed on the resort. However, I am proud to say that the efforts from the community did manage to save almost 50 percent of the resort. The owner and general manager said in an interview with a local radio station (and published in San Pedro Sun) that they would rebuild and be ready for guests in late December of 2013.

I am happy to say that Ramon’s Village Resort re-opened on their scheduled date.

It was rumored that the fire started from an unattended candle.

The sign says it all: “Thatched Cabanas” The backside of the resort facing the beach. To the right was the restaurant, which faced the water The fire skipped over some bungalows and totally destroyed others  This section of the resort was saved by the efforts of the community and the water brigade
